A Message To Our Family/Our Community

From our family to yours,

We know these last few weeks haven’t been easy and none of us know what the days to come will bring, but if there’s anything we’re certain of, it’s that we have a profound appreciation for you, the community that has been by our side since the beginning.

Working-from-home, social-distancing, and self-isolating can be stressful. It can be boring. And, it can be scary. So the Historic Homes team decided to put together a cheat-sheet of the things that are making us smile, laugh, and stay positive.

From streaming distractions to language classes to (attempting) new recipes — and plenty of stuff for the kids — we’re letting you in on what’s been keeping us busy in between Zoom conferences, virtual showings, and FaceTime cocktails and coffee. And, as always, we take joy in helping with local charitable organizations close to our hearts that are effecting real change and enriching the lives of others.

We hope our suggestions help, and we’d love to hear your diversion therapy, quick thoughts, or anything on your mind. We always look forward to your emails, as well as Instagram DMs or comments.

The Historic Homes Stay-At-Home Itinerary:

This Monday, April 6th, New York’s City Winery is hosting the live online “Downtown Seder.” Guaranteed to make you laugh, reflect, and sing along, look for an all-star cast to celebrate with, including comedian Lewis Black, Al Franken (in his shower!), and a musical Dayyenu by Perry Ferrell.

Enjoy at night at the museum (or day) — and skip the lines — with this virtual tour of the Isabelle Stewart Gardner Museum that’s all about addressing the mysteries of the century’s most famous art theft. Start thinking about how to score that $5 million reward.

Brush up on your art history, go on a trip to the international space station, or (virtually) sample the best sushi you’ve ever seen — Google Arts & Culture takes you around the world and beyond with stunning, fascinating journeys, visuals, and interactive activities from Botticelli’s masterpiece to a Nelson Mandela quiz, plus how to pose like Misty Copeland at home.

Calendar in Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays, and Sundays if your kids like to boogie for Urbanity Dance’s virtual youth dance classes. For children ages 12 months-18 years, their philosophy aims to not only teach moves, but develop emotional, social, and physical well-being for maximum individual empowerment.

Museum of Science has free STEM educational webinars for PreK – 8.

Learn how to transform (in a good way) the way you cook at Christopher Kimball’s Milk Street Cooking School — the culinary kitchen has a slew of TV programs where they show off jet-set recipes and go-to favorites (think: Thai curry, spicy salsa, Beirut fast food, and the most amazing layer cake, like, ever) — plus the Milk Street geniuses promise their style of cooking is quicker…and easier.

We hope this note cheered you up. Stay safe and have hope of better times in the not-too-distant future. You are part of our family — if there is anything that we can do to help, please let us know. We care.

– Micéal and the HH team
